Sporty siblings Ellie and Ethan Harrison have both been bitten by the golf bug in recent years.

Ellie (11), is a keen dancer and performer who has Down’s syndrome. Ethan (9) boxes for Wirral CP and has already been on the books of footballing giants Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.  Ellie and Ethan got into the swing of things with inclusive lessons at Pryors Hayes Golf Club in Cheshire.

Ellie has continued to progress in the sport and her brother Ethan, recently won his first competition in the Pryors Hayes Adult Junior Pair Series (with World Champion boxer Paul Butler).

Ethan has since been selected to play in the European Junior Golf Tour Championship throughout 2021.

We recently spoke with the talented youngsters about their love of golf…

The local press dubbed you the ‘Accidental Golfer’, how did you fall into golf?
Ethan – I asked my Dad if I could go to Pryor’s Hayes because my friend told me he’d been.  My Dad thought it might help me relax, as I do a lot of sports but they are all very high impact ones!
Ellie – I watched Ethan on some of the videos my Dad took and said I would like to have a go!

What are your favorite things about golf?
Ethan – The first shot of a tournament on the tee, no better feeling, hopefully getting off to a good start!
Ellie – I love putting.

Who are your golfing inspirations?
Ethan – Rory McIlroy because he was a teenager when he won his first major.
Ellie – My brother Ethan!

What are your biggest golfing achievements?
Ethan – entering my first golf competition and winning, it was the Adult and Junior Pairs Series at Pryor’s Hayes Golf Course.
Ellie – beating Ethan at putting!

What is the best part of your game?
Ethan – using my three wood, I can hit the ball further with my three wood than my driver.
Ellie – putting.

What areas are you working hard to develop?
Ethan –  I’m working hard on my putting.
Ellie – using my driver, I find it difficult to swing.

Recently you secured your first competition win with your pairs partner Paul Butler, how did that feel?
Absolutely fantastic, Paul told me on day one, “we’re here to win not just take part!”  That’s what I focused on.

You’ve recently been selected to play in the European Junior Golf Tour Championship?  How are you preparing for it?
Playing as much as possible.  It has been difficult this week, due to the rain.  Over Easter, I’ll be playing at Haydock Park, Prestatyn and North Wales. I’m playing in Spain next October in a 3-day tournament.

What are your golfing ambitions?
Ethan – to be the best in the world
Ellie – to play like my brother.

If you could play any course in the world, where would it be?
Muirfield one of the best courses and the oldest.

Who would be your dream Four-ball?
Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Canelo Alvarez.

Thank you!  It’s wonderful to hear about your love of golf.  We look forward to watching both of your games develop throughout 2021!  Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
