It’s official!  Sophie Clafton is our inaugural Noisy Golfer of the Month!

Sophie’s talent knows no bounds, as she celebrated two amazing achievements, within just a matter of weeks!

11 year old Sophie, was recently selected to be part of England Golf’s development squad…  And that’s not all!  Just a few rounds later, Sophie secured her first ever ACE on the 13th hole of the winter course at her home club on the Wirral at Wallasey Golf Club.

We spoke with Sophie, to discuss all things golf!

Tell us about yourself
I’ve been playing golf since I was two years old have just entered my first year in high school.  Other than golf, I also play competitive netball and enjoy playing football too.

What’s your first golfing memory?
I kind of remembered being about two years old and messing about with my plastic golf clubs that my Dad bought for me.  I started playing golf properly aged about seven years old.

What’s the best thing about golf?
I’m not going to lie… The best feeling about golf has got to be winning.  It’s also cool to new friends and travel to some really cool places.

Who is your golfing inspiration/player?
Tiger Woods for sure.

What are your biggest golfing achievements?
Getting a hole-in-one a few weeks ago, was brilliant, but my biggest achievement is being selected for the England development squad.  I also play for Cheshire and have a good Matchplay record for them and have won a few competitions.

This year I played in the Wee Wonders Grand Final and finished 4th overall and was the top under 11.

What is the best part of your game?
Well, like a lot of golfers, I would say I can be good or bad at everything depending on the day!  I don’t have a part of my game that is better than the rest, although I do love chipping because there’s such a wide range of shots you can hit.

What areas are you working hard to develop?
I think you can never be good enough at putting.  I would like to hit it a little bit further so I can compete with older girls.

Recently, you secured your first hole-in-one!  What a feeling…  Tell us about it.
It was amazing.  Defo up there with my best golfing moments!  I was lucky to do it while playing in a match for the Wallasey Juniors against the scratch team.  It was amazing to have my Dad there watching to see it.

You’ve recently been selected for the England Under 18 Development Squad.  How did you react to the news?
I was very happy.  It was an amazing achievement for me and one of my biggest ambitions of the year.

What are your golfing ambitions?
Next year I would like to get to 5 handicap and would like to win an under 14 event.  One day I would love to play for England and represent my country.

If you could play on any course in the world, where would it be?
Augusta, by a mile, because it looks so good on TV.

Who would be your dream four-ball?
Me, Tiger Woods, Georgia Hall and Jon Rahm.

Fantastic!  Thanks so much Sophie, and congratulations on your amazing achievements.  We look forward to following your progress in the coming years!
