Q&A with Mousa Shana’ah – Jordanian Golfing Sensation

We are delighted to have recently spoken with Jordanian sensation Mousa Shana’ah.  The UAE based junior golfer, aged 13, has shown serious game.  Earlier this year, he bettered his previous junior scoring record with a fabulous 67 at Jebel Ali Golf Resort, Dubai.  He is already a winner of multiple Junior Masters Tour.

Coahced by former European and Asian Tour player Yasin Ali at the Leadbetter Golf Academy, Dubai, he is being tipped for big things by many.  The Junior Masters Tour is organized by his Father Abdellah in partnership with Golf Events Management.

Based out of the Leadbetter Academy at  Dubai’s Jebel Ali Golf Resorts.  Mousa shows a determined work ethic and a natural gift for golf.  Not a bad combination!

Tell us about yourself!
My name is Mousa Shana’ah and I am 13 years of age.  I have a 10 year old brother who is also into golf and live with my brother and parents in Dubai.  I love my golf as much as my family.

When did you first start playing golf?
I got into playing golf at the age of 4 by playing a variety of different sports games on my Wii and golf was my favorite one.  As I started enjoying it more, I started watching videos about golf.  Soon enough I told my Dad that I wanted to start playing this sport in real life.  I went to an academy and kept practicing more and more.  My coach noticed that I was very talented and that I learned very quickly.

What’s your favourite thing about golf?
My favorite thing about golf is that you are your own boss.  Every shot you play and how you play it is completely up to you.  I chose an individual sport like golf rather than a team sport such as football or basketball.  Golf is a very time consuming sport which teaches you a lot of patience and it teaches you to love the process of learning and getting better.

Already, you have achieved so much in the game.  What are your aspirations?
My ultimate aspiration would be to become the world number 1!  Sounds pretty straight forward right?  I am working towards it slowly and grinding my fitness and training everyday to get there and I don’t regret a thing.

My favorite thing about golf is that you are your own boss.  Every shot you play and how you play it is completely up to you.

What’s the best shot you’ve ever hit?
Well there is a lot of amazing shots I have hit throughout my golfing journey.  Some of the best shots would be my 4 holes-in-one.

Who is your biggest golf influence?
For golf it would be Probably my coach.  I love his stories of him playing and him telling me how he got better over time.  Which is great to hear from a former Asian and European tour player.  Other than golf it’s definitely my Mom and Dad.  My parents work so hard to provide for me and my brother.  I love how they support and care for me.  I love them with all my heart.

Favourite shot to play?
I love playing all shots, I don’t really have a specific club or shot I love to play.  It would probably be my 3-wood.  The shots you can play with a 3-wood are limitless and very pure.

What are your biggest strengths?
My short game.  I always spend most of my golf training on the chipping and putting green.  Further distances come with time, but short game comes with training, it doesn’t improve on its own.

My parents work so hard to provide for me and my brother.  I love how they support and care for me.  I love them with all my heart.

What areas of your game are you working on most?
Again, I would say my short game.  Winning is done on the green!  If you can get really good at it and be able to play from all around the green then you are set for some good scores.

If you could play any course in the world, where would it be?
St. Andrews Old Course! It would be pretty good to experience those old conditions and see how golf courses have developed over time.  I’ve heard and seen online that it looks very beautiful.

Who would be your dream Four-ball?
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, my brother and Me.  This is gonna be competitive!

Thank you so much Mousa!  It’s wonderful for us to get to know you more.  We’ll be watching your development with interest.  Best wishes for your upcoming events and thank you for speaking with Noisy Golf!
