Junior Golfer Q&A – Kaylee Bell

Our latest player Q&A is Kaylee Bell, from the United States.  Kaylee, who is 10 years old, is a student at the Michelle Holmes School of Golf in Virginia.

Kaylee absolutely loves golf and couldn’t wait to share her story with us at Noisy HQ.

Tell us about yourself!
My name is Kaylee Bell, I am 10 years old from Virginia Beach, VA and I LOVE to golf!  My second home is Virginia Beach National Golf Club.  When I am off the course, I love to swim and spend time with family and friends!  I am so blessed to have such amazing golf coaches at Michelle Holmes School of Golf.  Love you Coach Michelle and Coach Dan!

What is your first golfing memory?
When I was 3 or 4, I used to go up to Owls Creek Golf Course with my Dad all the time.  We used to hit multiple buckets of balls, and that is where I fell in love with the game of golf!

What is the best thing about golf?
New friendships, travelling to play different courses, being out in nature, new challenges and friendly competition (most of the time).

What is the best part of your game?
My game is always a work in progress, but right now my putting is the best of my 3 aspects!

What areas are you working hard to develop?
My iron game is well put together right now, and my putting is too.  With that being said, the one aspect I really need to work on is my chipping and pitching.

Tell as about the best shot you have ever played?
Regionals 2020 at Golden Horseshoe.  On hole 5, I went out of bounds – both ways – and ended up getting a quadruple bogey!  Then we walked to hole 6 par 3, 90 yard shot straight uphill, I hit an 8 iron and was about 15-20 feet from the hole. I lined my ball up and hit it, I thought in my mind “wow that was way too hard!” but next thing you know, it went straight in the middle of the pin and in for birdie!

…”Sometimes I still get butterflies at large tournaments.”

What is in your bag?
Ping Prodi-G’s, Scotty Cameron Putter (Newport 2), Titleist ProV1’s, alignment aticks, glove, towel, water bottle, Bushnell Pin Seeker, Western Birch tees, Sharpie, golf tokens, yardage book and a golf rules book

How do you feel on the first tee in a big competition?
When I first started playing golf, I was very nervous on the first tee, but as I played more and got more experienced the first tee jitters are gone.  Sometimes I still get butterflies at large tournaments.

You play regularly in US Kids Golf Tournaments, what’s the best thing about playing in tournaments and what are your most recent results?
The best thing about playing in US Kids golf tournaments for me is having the best tournament directors run it of course.  Playing with friends and having friendly competition and meeting new friends on the road trips.  In Fall of 2020 I placed 2nd in the Hampton Roads Local Tour.

How do you get your game ready to compete?  Practice drills, preparation etc.
I have regular lessons with my coaches, TPI workouts, putting and chipping drills throughout the week and getting to the range as much as possible.  My Dad and I like to play at least once or twice a week at minimum.  On the weekends, we try to get a round in with one of our good friends.

“Long term, I would love to play College golf at Wake Forest University “Go Demon Deacons!!!”

What are your golfing ambitions?
My immediate ambition is to place Top 10 in Worlds and shoot even or under par on 18 holes.  Long term, I would love to play college golf at Wake Forest University “Go Demon Deacons!”.  I would also love to play professional golf on the LPGA Tour.

Who is your golfing inspiration/favorite player?
Arnold Palmer.  One of the greatest golfers in history and he did a lot for the game.  He started the Golf Channel and brought sponsorship to golf.  He loved and appreciated his fans and he won 62 PGA Tour Titles!

If you could play any course in the world, where would it be?
The Old Course at St. Andrews Course in Scotland.  This course is on my bucket list, my dream is to play here with my Dad.  I love it because it is one of the oldest, most beautiful courses.

Who would be your dream Four-ball?
Arnold Palmer would have been amazing to play with, but since he is no longer with us, I would choose Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods and myself.
